Three years and two coaches later, the Boys Cross Country team has struggled to find a more permanent coach after the retirement of the previous coach, high school english teacher Scott Sheedlo.
Luckily, Chad Surinck stepped into the position. Though Coach Surinck has not coached cross country before, he has coached other sports in the past.
His passion for running and his daughter’s participation on the girls team influenced his decision to become the coach of the boys team.
One of Surinck’s goals this year is to get most of the team to states.
“Coach is pretty awesome, he sometimes joins in with the fun and jokes.” Junior Weston Kvalevog said.
Many of the other runners on the team fully agree with Weston and believe Surinck may be their best coach yet.
“He actually runs the workout with us, so he knows what we are going through and knows how hard it can be” Sophomore Trayton Terpening said
