Rotten Tomatoes, said the movie, Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, is disgusting, creepy, and disappointing. This movie is about a comedian who acts as a clown at his job that he currently works at. However, Arthur, the clown, gets fired from this job due to bringing a gun to a children’s hospital. He claims this is a part of his “act,” but it clearly was not. After he gets let go from his job, he begins to think and comes to the conclusion that everyone takes him as a joke. He gets fed up with it and makes his first murder which only continues from there. He dreams of being a stand up comedian. Arthur makes one decision that turns into escalating events of constant bad decisions. The Joker is known as a disappointing film from many people. Many reviews consider opinions such as, the joker supposed to be the opposite of batman, it’s way creepier if we don’t know where the Joker came from, it’s more interesting to evolve the Joker than to explain him, the Joker’s origin works better as a twist, and that the Joker is a criminal mastermind and funny. All five of these reasons show the exact opposite of what the movie actually portrays which is disappointing to many. Other than these factors, the Joker offers a great production design. The design of the film holds the viewers attention up until the Joker makes cruel moves. The build of suspense during certain parts of the movie, such as the attack on the Subway, hold the viewers attention well. However, shortly after the film starts, it falls into the “boring” category until the very end of the movie where the climax builds up again. I personally would give this movie a 7 out of 10 because it provided a lot of action which kept me into it. But, I would have liked to see more of a relation to the older Joker because it was not present as much as I think it should have been.
