Death Certificate is Ice Cube’s second studio album and offers 20 very controversial but still very good hip hop songs. The album was released on October 29, 1991 through Lench Mob Records and Priority Records. It debuted at number 2 on the US billboard 200 chart, selling over 105,000 copies in the first week. It was mainly produced by Sir Jinx, DJ Pooh and Ice Cube. This album made Ice Cube into one of the best and most popular rappers in the world after he left NWA in 1989. “Steady Mobbin ” and “No vaseline” are the two best known and most important songs from Death Certificate. The album is basically divided into two parts, the Death Side and the Life Side. The Death Side, containing the first 11 songs of the album, is a “mirror image of where we are today,” therefore it’s full of drug dealing stories and violence. The Life Side, however, is a “vision of where we need to go.” He talks about the riotings and the violence against minorities and that they need to stop. Besides that, the album of course covers some diss tracks against his former groupmates. All in all it’s one of Hip Hop’s best albums ever produced and definitely worth listening to.
