Varsity Football Shuts Out Mt. Morris 54-18

Austin Darling, Staff writer

The Ovid-Elsie Marauders blow out the Mt. Morris Panthers in a 54-18 victory. Hopes for a
Marauder victory were held high and proven right in the third quarter. The first half would see
many penalties on Ovid-Elsie, which is the leading cause of the close score. However, the
Marauders would explode after halftime into a score-heavy half.
The Marauders saw one of their biggest offensive games with 515 total yards. Once again,
quarterback Tryce Tokar lead Ovid-Elsie in passing with six completions for 164 yards, two
touchdowns, and one interception from a bobbled catch. Tokar would also run the ball into the
end zone for a rushing score. Clay Wittenberg would be the lead receiver for the Marauders with
two receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown. Running back Perrien Rasch would find his
breakout game of the season with five carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. Other scores
could be found by Carter Kelley, Logan Thompson, Isaac Orta, and Cohen Brown.
Defensively, Ovid-Elsie was mostly sound. Scoring plays would come away off of simple
mistakes by the Marauder crew, who otherwise would lock the Panthers down. Mt. Morris would
have 199 total offensive yards, gaining 115 yards from penalties. Landon Stoneman would be
the defensive leader for the Marauders, totaling 11.5 tackles, three sacks, and two tackles for
loss. Braxton Stenger would help the team with two interceptions, and a third one would be
obtained by Perrien Rasch.
This was the Marauder’s final conference game of the season. Due to a Durand win over New
Lothrop, however, Ovid-Elsie will not have a share of the conference title this season. Looking
forward, the Marauders are scheduled to face off against the Corunna Hornets in their final
regular season matchup of the year. A win is essential to a playoff game at home for Ovid-Elsie.
