Titanic Rises for 25th-Anniversary

The cult favorite Titanic (1997), directed by James Cameron had its 25-year anniversary in February. The romance was brought back to theaters for fans to experience it in the theater again.

Titanic is based on the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. The story is told through the romance between the impoverished Jack Dawson and the wealthy Rose Dewitt Bukater. They meet when Jack convinces Rose not to jump off the Titanic into the water, feeling hopeless and trapped in her betrothal to a man she doesn’t love. From there, they quickly fall in love and decide when the boat docks, they will leave together. The boat never docks.

This cult favorite runs for three hours and sixteen minutes, but I enjoy every minute. Jack and Rose’s romance is timeless and brings me to tears time and time again. The characters are unique and have incredible depth.

Leonardo Di Caprio gave an incredible performance, as well as his co-star, Kate Winslet. Their chemistry on screen was not only romantic, but realistic and relatable. Kathy Bates, who played Margaret Brown, did a great job of portraying “new money” and I loved how her character could understand Jack and help him to fit in at the dinner party.

Rotten Tomatoes rated Titanic an 88% on the Tomatometer. I would rate this movie five stars. A movie I will watch again and again throughout the years.
