Box Trolls, Animation With Deeper Meaning

Natelie Stoneman

The film  Box Trolls is an animated movie that stars the voices of Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, and Issac Hempstead. The film was released in 2014 and the directors are Graham Annabel and Anthony Stacchi. It was also produced by Laika.

The film is about a baby boy that was given away by his dad to the box trolls that roamed the streets at night. Throughout the film you watch the little boy grow up. All the box trolls call him eggs because of the box he wears. Eggs doesn’t know who his real family is, he genuinely thinks he’s one of the trolls because that is all he knows. Meanwhile, the citizens in the town are being manipulated to believe that the box trolls are killers and they will eat your kids without any hesitation. Due to this, there are people capturing the box trolls. While watching the film you will realize that these evil men have alternative motivations with the box trolls.

The rating that was given to this film by the public on Rotten Tomatoes was 63% and on the Tomatometer, it was 78%. Personally, I would rate this film a 7.5/10. I say this because it is great to keep your attention with all the twists and turns throughout. It is very interesting the way the directors and producers choose the style of animation for the film. This movie is suitable for preteens.
