Mrs. Huhn, Someone You Should Know

By: Audrey Johns and Kyron Miller

Mallory Huhn is in 8th grade math and algebra 1 teacher for Ovid Elsie middle school.

Right now her classes are learning about linear equations. Her algebra class is working on slope and calculating the slope from a graph using points. The other classes are working on learning and comparing proportional relationships.

Her favorite part of teaching is how each year is different and getting new students so it isn’t super repetitive, she also likes interaction with the students. She became a teacher because it was always something she was interested in and when she was picking a career she felt that nothing else really fit. She always knew she was going to teach math. She also likes helping people and the students.

Mrs. Huhn loves working at OE because the size isn’t too big but also isn’t too small. She says she likes the “community feel” OE has because everybody knows each other and is very nice to everybody.

She graduated from The University of Michigan and has a bachelor’s degree in science and education with a Mathematics major and a psychology minor.

She would describe her teaching style as “student centered and discovering” with group discussions and work trying to get the student to discover something on their own. She always tries to motivate her students by being very enthusiastic and interesting. She also has many different interactive activities that show what they are learning.
