Matrix: Resurrections takes place after the first three movies in the franchise. At first, you are thrown into a world you think is the real world, although in the future, only to realize that it’s actually a false world that our main character Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, has been living in for an unknown amount of time. Directed by Lana Wachowski and released on Dec 22, 2022, this film had a lot of expectations going for it.
The reviews for this movie had poor reviews. This movie was made even though the ending of the third installment was meant to be the finale that wrapped everything up. But years later a fourth one was made which meant if it didn’t live up to the original three then it would be a disaster. One person on Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a 5/10 saying it was too long and confusing. Another person said the movie had none of the fast and action-packed scenes the first three had. The overall rating for this movie so far has been around 7/10 at the best.
Personally, I would rate this movie at around 6/10. I watched the original three movies when I was a little younger with my dad so when I went to watch this movie I had some expectations going in that were not met. The visuals looked great, but the action that had been so riveting the first couple was not there. Instead of the hand-to-hand fights, we now get random air attacks and brute punches. Nothing seemed fluid. And making the whole movie revolve around love more than anything else seemed weird. The main thing driving the plot was Neo’s love for Trinity which shouldn’t have been the case.
Overall, this movie was not the best addition to the Matrix franchise but it does have its moments. It looked stunning visually and definitely stood out as the best looking although not the best feeling-wise. It could have definitely used some work on the script to make it better and keep it flowing smoothly.
