NEW ORLEANS- Kansas and North Carolina played out a thrilling national championship game on Monday, April 4th, 2022. The Jayhawks from Kansas came out victorious with a 72-69 victory that featured a hard fought comeback.
North Carolina dominated the opening half of the game. The Tar Heels offense was able to dominate like in some of their earlier games of the tournament against Baylor and Marquette, as they took a 40-25 lead into half.
Kansas, however, played stifling basketball in the second half as they stormed their way back into the game. A 47 point second half lifted the Jayhawks over the Tar Heels. North Carolina committed 7 of their 13 turnovers in the second half, and many of them were costly to their success in the game.
Kansas had a better shooting night as they went 29-66 on field goal attempts throughout the game whereas North Carolina only went 23-73. Ultimately the Tar Heels showed that they were one of the best teams in the nation despite what the 8 seed might show.
