On April 14th, U.S. Intel helped Ukraine sink a Russian flagship named Moskva. Ukrainian forces asked the United States about a ship sailing in the black sea south of Odesa, to which the United States identified the ship as the Moskva. Ukrainian forces intercepted and destroyed the Moskva later that day.
The United States did not know Ukraine was going to attack the Moskva when asked for the information and denies any involvement in the decision of the strike. Pentagon press secretary John Kirby says “We were not involved in the Ukrainians’ decision to strike the ship or in the operation they carried out,” Kirby added. “We had no prior knowledge of Ukraine’s intent to target the ship. The Ukrainians have their own intelligence capabilities to track and target Russian naval vessels, as they did in this case.”
