Jeffrey Dahmer Story Gruesome, Yet Beautifully Done

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is about the American serial killer we all know as the
cannibal. This show was recently added to Netflix this month and as soon as it was, it became a
major hit as it is the number one show streaming on Netflix. This show describes the story of
one of the most notorious serial killers in the United States, telling us how life was like for Jeffrey
from when he was a kid to as he became an adult. It presents us with details of how or why
Jeffery was the way that he was, basically saying that he was always like this and that from a
young age he was interested in things other kids weren’t or that “normal” people would find
disturbing. From this show we learn the thoughts and reasoning behind jeffreys demented mind,
which intrigues us to want to watch it because we want to understand and speculate as to why
he acts the way that he does. Later in the show it also starts to be told from the points of view of
his victims, which makes it interesting to see a different side being shown to us because we get
to feel what their life was like and understand their world before their life was taken. The main
cast of this show consist of Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, Richard Jenkins as Lionel Dahmer
(Jeffreys Dad), Penelope Ann Miller as Joyce Dahmer (Jeffreys Mom), Molly Ringwald as Shari
Dahmer ( Jeffreys Step Mom), Michael Learned as Cathrine Dahmer (Jeffreys Grandma), and
Niecy Nash as Glenda Cleveland (Jeffreys Neighbor). The director/executive producer and
creator of this show is Ryan Murphy along with co writer and executive producer Ian Brennan.
Rotten Tomatoes rated it a 53% with Top critic, Melanie Mcfarland stating, “It is gruesome,
disturbing, and unnervingly precise in re-creating Dahmer’s history and the legend that has
arisen around him. It is also an example of how the Ryan Murphy brand can be at odds with a
story’s mission.” However audience rating was an 85% with top comment stating, “As atrocious
and vile as Dahmer’s crimes were, this series was beautifully done. Evan Peters was
PHENOMENAL. I feel like the series did a good job in honoring the victims by telling their stories
and putting a heavy focus on their names. I also feel like they did a great job shedding light on
the legal injustices, past and present. Great acting. Great script. Beautiful cinematography.
Horrible crimes.” My rating for this show would be a 100% because it is one of those shows
where you want to keep watching it because it has such an interesting story behind it that you
want to know more about. It is so good but can be so deeply disturbing to the point where you
get the chills creeping up and down your body. The show is explained well and the
actors/actresses express their feelings so strongly to the point that you can feel how they must
have felt. I also think that the show gives you consciousness of how these kinds of things can
happen to anyone including yourself, and to be aware of your surroundings. I recommend
watching this but if you have a weak stomach and can’t stand shows that are severely unsettling
then I wouldn’t watch it.
