Saving Private Ryan Becomes Teaching Tool

Saving Private Ryan Becomes Teaching Tool

Kevin Ley, Staff writer

Saving Private Ryan is about WWII when we stormed the beaches at Normandy June 6, 1944 in the Allied invasion to free Europe from the Nazis. After the U.S. successfully takes over the beach, eight soldiers were sent on a mission to save Private Ryan. They were sent on this mission because all of Private Ryan’s brothers were killed in combat and they wanted to save his bloodline. These eight men set out to find him while encountering German forces along the way. Director Steven Spielberg explores questions of humanity during wartime in the plot as they make decisions about who lives or dies. Due to the graphic violence, this movie was not allowed to be shown inside classrooms when it was initially released on video in 1998. However, now Saving Private Ryan is being shown inside World Conflict class for the realism it depicts.

Personal Rating: I give this movie a 10/10. I give it this rating because the beach scene at the start makes it the most realistic war movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a war movie. Tomato meter: 95%. Release Date: 1998. Cast: Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Tom Sizemore
