Meg 2: The Trench was a movie that didn’t have many good reviews. It was directed by Ben Wheatley and released on August 4th, 2023. The movie stars Jason Taylor as the main character on his trip with Meg for a second time. It made up to 82.5 Million dollars at the box office which isn’t the best when you look at other movies.
Meg 2: The Trench is much like the first installment in 2018. The movie follows Jason Taylor as he dives back into the waters where his voyage again spirals out of control due to the infamous Megalodon. They also fight a giant squid and after killing the first Megalodon, a second one comes out and eats the squid. This movie has very bad reviews but is also surprisingly mixed with the audience. It got a 28% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes but also got a 73% with the audience score. Many reviewers say the movie stopped taking itself seriously at some point and that the movie didn’t have any progression at all. One review said that in order to watch the ending you have to sit through the long and boring movie. They gave the movie a 1/5 which obviously isn’t the best score someone could give the movie. Another review gave the movie a 2/5 saying if the movie had offered more there would be more to recommend but as of now, it’s dead in the water. Overall the reviews on this movie aren’t great at all and could definitely use some help.
Overall, I would give Meg 2: The Trench a 6/10 as the writing was bland but the action was nice. The movie really picked up at the end however it doesn’t make up for the disaster that was the story and production it took to get to that end. I personally would not recommend this movie to anyone unless you want to see how bad it really is.
