Wish came out on Nov. 22, 2023 and was directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. It is the most recent film made by Disney and was made with a budget of 200 million but only made 49.4 million at the box office. That makes the current trend of Disney films doing badly stay true.
Like most Disney movies this one is a musical that has plenty of songs and great visuals in it. The movie follows a 17-year-old girl named Asha after she meets a magical star and makes the biggest wish she could make. Asha and her new star friend set out to save their kingdom from king magnifico. The reviews for Wish aren’t the best at all. The audience score for this movie is 81% which is average but the Tomatometer is at 41%. That difference is huge and many believe the movie was self damaging at times. One reviewer gave it a 3/5 saying the opening set the example that the directing and writing did not match up and set the movie off for them. Another reviewer gave it a 1/5 saying it was like the Marvels that had no personality or passion and was built from the outside in. There was another review that wasn’t a review but someone asking people to like it purely because everyone has seen a star and wished for something. That person gave the movie a 4/5 on that same review.
Overall, I would give the movie a 3/5. The visuals and audio are fantastic with the songs grabbing my attention more than previous movies have. However the story was underwhelming. It felt dumbed down halfway through it. The story kept losing me which caused me to become bored while watching it. I do recommend this movie to anyone who loves Disney and all kids who want to watch it. It’s a great family movie to watch, but not teens.
