Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the sequel to the first Aquaman movie that came out. Jason Momoa returns as Arther who also goes by Aquaman. The movie was released on December 2nd, 2023, and had a budget of 205 million. However, it only made 118 million at the box office.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom takes place after the events of the first movie in 2018. Black Mantis tries to kill Aquaman due to his failure in the first film, this time with the help of the mythic Black Trident. This threat makes Arther join forces with his brother to protect their kingdom from this evil and above all, save the world from destruction. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was not taken well by most viewers. The Tomatometer only had a 34% while the audience score was 81% on RottenTomatoes. One review simply stated that it was going on their worst movie list of 2023 while giving it a 1/10. Another review gave it a 2/4 saying that it felt like the CGI was done too much and only served to fashion up a barely coherent story. One person gave it a 2/5 while saying it relied on its CGI work to make it a functional movie and that it proves the superhero movie business is failing.
I would rate the movie a 3/5 due to everything that’s wrong with it. The CGI work covered up a lot and sometimes even the CGI was poor in quality. The story was there but lacked in some ways. I did like the music that was present in the movie though. Despite that, I would still say the movie is half-decent since it’s still a superhero movie and has some decent fight scenes. It doesn’t do the comics justice but it does do something with them. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a movie with action and superheroes.
