April 28th, Three time WNBA champion and two time olympic gold medalist Candice Parker retired from the Las Vegas Aces. Candace played for 16 seasons. NYC Amsterdam News stated that she said,”The competitor in me always wanted 1 more, but it’s time.”She also stated,”My Body and Heart knew, but I needed to give my mind time to accept it.” ESPN says that Parker is getting tired of the pain from the foot injury she has been facing. In 2023, Parker signed with the L.A Aces and underwent surgery for a fracture in July and was out until the season following.
According to WNBA, Candace averaged 16 points a game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 4 assists per game. She went to the University of Tennessee and had to take time off due to her first knee injury of her career. She played at Tennessee 2004-2008 then finally entered the WNBA draft. For the 2008 Draft she was the first pick in the first round. Parker was also the first player to win a championship with 3 different teams in WNBA history.Entering 2024 she was the only player in WNBA who got MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season. That was the best note for her to retire on and she made history for the years she played in the WNBA.
