Three tourists found dead in Mexico were shot in the head and their bodies
dumped in a well, authorities have confirmed. Officials believe the men were attacked trying to
stop the theft of their pickup truck. Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, 30 and 33,
and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, disappeared on 27 April while on a surfing trip
in Ensenada. According to officials, The attackers wanted the vehicle for its tires and shot the
tourists when they resisted, Baja California state prosecutor Maria Andrade suggested. Their
bodies were found in a 15ft deep well about 4 miles from the site of the attack in the town of
Santo Tomás on Friday, May 3rd.
According to CBS News, The three friends were attacked there on April 28 or 29. As
soon as police arrived at their last known campsite, it was clear that something had gone
violently wrong. There were blood stains and marks “as if heavy objects had been dragged,”
leading to suspicions of an attack, the Baja California state prosecutor’s office said in an attempt
to reconstruct the scene. Chief state prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez described what
likely would have been moments of terror that ended the trip for the three men. She theorized
the killers drove by and saw the foreigners’ pickup truck and tents and wanted to steal the
truck’s tires and other parts. But “when (the foreigners) came up and caught them, surely, they
resisted.”
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the parents are devastated since
their sons have passed away, The parents of Jake and Callum Robinson have made an
emotional statement about the loss of their sons, saying: “The world has become a darker place
for us.” “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Callum and Jake have been
murdered,” mother Debra Robinson said. “Our hearts are broken and the world has become a
darker place for us. “We also mourn the loss of [Jack] Carter Rhoad, a close friend. They were
young men enjoying their passion of surfing together.”
