On Monday, August 26th, Caitlyn Clark, the 2024 number one pick and Former Iowa Basketball Star, inched closer to breaking another WNBA rookie record during the Indiana Fever’s 84-79 win over the Atlanta Dream. She made four three-pointers to bring her season total to 85, tying the rookie record set by the Dream’s Rhyne Howard in 2022. According to CNN, at the rate Clark is going, she will most definitely break the 3 point record in the upcoming games. In correlation, over 17,000 fans packed into State Farm Arena as The Dream set a record for the highest attendance for a WNBA game in Georgia. This was the fifth time this season that a team’s attendance record has been broken with the Fever as the visitors. As many fans and sports analysts have predicted and discovered, this rise in fan attendance at WNBA games can be credited towards the rookie Clark. According to graphics, the fan attendance has increased by over 80% since Clark was drafted. Though the spotlight can not all be on Clark, as rookie Angel Reese, from LSU, has also brought in a lot more fan attendance. If this trend continues, the WNBA could become a lot more interesting.
