On September 10, 2024, the IDF force sent out an Airstrike to target the Gaza humanitarian zone. When it reached its target it killed 19 Palestinians. Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group, violently attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, so this conflict has been going on for quite some time now and Israel is on the offensive. As the IDF has been gaining control more and more casualties have been happening just to hunt down these terrorists. In a BBC News interview a witness said, “The bomb obliterated an area crowded with tents for displaced Palestinians in Al-Mawasi, Southwest of Khan Younis, leaving huge craters in the sand.” Others said that it was so intense that it threw bodies into the air. The initial death toll was disputed by the terrorist-run civil defense authority which said that the team had rescued over 40 bodies.
Israel on multiple occasions throughout this war has told innocent civilians to evacuate or they could possibly be killed if the IDF takes action against the terrorists which to the casualties shows they do not listen. The humanitarian zone spans to about 41 sq. km (16 sq. miles) aid provisions are very limited due to low access to the aid and security issues. The explosion rocked al-Mawasi after midnight their local time on Tuesday (21:00 GMT on Monday). The strike left a 7m (23ft) crater and buried more than 20 tents that were set up to care for the civilians and wounded terrorists the civil defense’s operations director said that through the night more than 40 people were killed and 60 were wounded
In a statement from the IDF, they said “A precise strike on a number of senior Hamas terrorists who were operating within a command and control centre embedded inside the humanitarian area.” In the UN Middle East peace envoy, Tor Wennesland, condemned the strike on a densely populated area where displaced people were sheltering Wennesland said, “I underline that intentional humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction, proportionally, and precautions in attack, must be upheld at all times.” He also is urging for Israel and Hamas to conclude a cease-fire and release the remaining refugees in Gaza.
