Residents were hit by a catastrophic storm in North Carolina on September 17th, 2024. Unsurprised residents about the storm found that some areas had as much as 20 inches of water. Scientists are contributing to the storm of excessive climate change. The storm brought about tremendous damage leading to flooded cars and buildings.
North Carolina residents were hit by a storm that brought about 6-8 inches of rain throughout most of the state. Most people in North Carolina were unsurprised to see such a large storm because scientists predicted it would happen. The storm caused flooded homes, cars, and closed schools.
The most amount of rain was 21 inches in 12 hours at North Carolina beach. The rest of the state was covered in an average of six to eight inches of rain. The rain continued for 12 hours on September 16, 2024. The rain that came in the 12 hours is considered to be the amount equivalent to a 1000-year rainfall.
The storm is considered to be caused by climate change scientists say. One Scientist named Andrew Kruczkiewicz, a humanitarian, development, and disaster management sector gave an educated answer on why this terrible storm came rolling in. “Data shows one of the strongest relationships between climate change and precipitation is that as the atmosphere warms, the capacity to hold water increases. Therefore we see more intense rainfall in a shorter period of time,” said Andrew Kruczkiewicz.
The rain was caused by a cyclone that came from across the Atlantic Ocean. Cyclones from the Atlantic Ocean are very rare and this time it dumped its wrath onto North Carolina. The storm covered a majority of the state and cause catastrophic flooding.
