This past Monday the Detroit Lions returned home from Arizona after a gritty win, to play in Ford Field again for Monday Night Football. The Lions finally revealed their new slick black alternate uniforms called the Motor City Muscle. Many Lions fans stayed up late to watch this game, awaiting one of the best set matchups of the year, the Seattle Seahawks. In the past 2 years it has been a close game decided in the last minute, and last year it even went into overtime. In the years prior, the Seahawks had dominated the Lions, leaving the Lions with only 1 win against them in 8 years in 2012 when they beat them 28-24. This year was the same as the last, two tough teams going head to head at Ford Field. The Sea Hawks came into this game 3-0 and the Lions came into this game 2-1, their one loss being at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions were favorites in this game, and they did not disappoint. In the first half the Lions put up 21 points and allowed a single touchdown. All three of the first touchdowns were on the ground by David Montgomery who had 1 and Jahmyr Gibbs who had 2. The Lions defense helped out Jahmyr’s first touchdown by punching out the football from Dk Metcalf’s arms on a promising Seahawks drive, and recovering it. After Half time the Lions continued their dominance. They let the Seahawks score on a long drive but they came right back 3 minutes later. After a drive down field the Lions pulled a trick play out of their hat. Amon Ra St-Brown took the ball on a reverse and tossed it up to Jared Goff on the other side of the field for a 7 yard touchdown. The Seahawks would bounce right back 3 minutes later with a Kenneth Walker touchdown and a failed 2 pt attempt. The Score here was 20-28 at this point. Then Jameson Williams caught a medium pass and exploded into a 70 yard touchdown. His celebration was a goal post dunk in honor of Calvin Johnson who was being celebrated that night, which drew out a 15 yard penalty to be added to the PAT attempt. Jake Bates drilled it down the middle to make the score 35-20. The Sea Hawks took the ball with 2 minutes left in the 3rd and ended the quarter. Then to start the 4th quarter Kenneth Walker ran it in for his 3rd touchdown of the night and the PAT by Jason Myers made the score 35-27 with the Lions in the lead. After some defense the Lions finally scored again with a toe tap touchdown from Amon Ra St-Brown. And a final Jake Bates PAT would put the Lions up 42-27 and Bates would be perfect 6/6 on PATs for the night. The Seahawks would make a stand after pinning the Lions Deep and they would get a safety to make the score 42-29 inching closer to the Lions lead. But it wouldn’t matter anyways because a throw to the end zone by Geno Smith would be intercepted by Kerby Joseph to close the game. After another Lions Seahawks shootout, the Lions would finally come out on top for the first time since 2012, and they would win 42-29. Lions quarterback Jared Goff would also make history, being the quarterback to have the most attempts while having an 100 percent completion percentage (18/18, 292 yards, 2 touchdowns passing, 1 touchdown receiving). This weekend, the Lions have a bye week but next Sunday, they will continue their revenge tour and take on the Dallas Cowboys who beat them last year after a controversial 2 pt conversion call.
