In July 2018 social worker along with police officers had gone to the house of LaDonna Davis for a wellness check. However, when they showed up they found multiple squatters living there. Futhermore, La donna was in no place to vouch for the people living there. At one point during the investigation she even fainted in front of the officers. LaDonna and her late husband James made headlines in the 1960s for raising a baby chimpanzee named Moe. She was now being exploited financially and robbed by a biker gang that had taken control of her property.
The Davis’s had lived with their chimp, Moe, for 30 years before he was forcibly removed from their home because he bit the finger of a house guest. When the couple went to the wildlife preserve to visit him on his 39th birthday the unthinkable had happened and two chimps had escaped the enclosure while the two were ready to share a cake with Moe. These two chimps had charged the Davis’s almost immediately. They had bit and tore off LaDonnas thumb. However, her husband who suffered the most. They had torn out one of his eyes, bit of a piece of his nose, eight of his fingers, part of his skull, along with his butt, lips, cheek, and genitals. Afterward, James had to stay in the hospital for five months worth of recovery while Moe was moved to a separate facility. The Davis’s received a $4 million settlement for the attack. In 2008 Moe disappeared from the new facility and he was never found after that.
