As week 9 of football comes around a new team has taken over the No. 1 spot. With Texas losing to Georgia on Sept.19, this moved around the entire top five teams, and the result is Oregon taking over at No. 1 for the first time this season.
The Ducks enter Week 9 of college football and they have a 7-0 winning streak. Oregon had been ranked No. 1 just eight times in school history. In 2010 for the first couple weeks they were number one till an upset against Auburn in the National Championship. In Nov. 2012 they were again number 1 for a short time before an overtime loss to Stanford the very next week bounced them back to No. 5. The Oregon Ducks are well on their way to a historic season.
Head coach of Oregon Dan Lanning was how he felt going into week 9 as number 1. Dan simply responded as “Who cares”. He then was later followed up to get more information and he said, “I think it’s really simple for us when our messaging hasn’t changed the entire year,” Lanning said. “You don’t sit halfway through a meal and say you’re done eating when there’s still a lot of food left on the plate. That’s where we’re at. We’re at the midway point of the season. We’re not done yet. There’s a lot of things that we still want to accomplish. That doesn’t really matter to us.” Dan avoids letting his team look too deeply into rankings and what others think about their program from the outside.
