Currents is the 3rd studio album released by Australian music project, Tame Impala, through Modular Recordings on July 17th, 2015. Like the previous two albums by the project, Currents was completely written, recorded, and performed by Kevin Parker. For the first time, Parker mixed the music and recorded all of the instruments by himself. The album also featured no other collaborators. Currents makes a shift to a more dance-oriented style of music that focuses more on synthesizers rather than guitar, like Parker’s previous work, four singles were released for the album including, Let It Happen, Cause I’m a Man. Eventually, and The Less I Know the Better. Currents topped charts around the world and was acclaimed by critics. The album was nominated for multiple grammy awards and won the Best Rock Album and Album of the Year at the 2015 ARIA Music Awards. I personally really enjoy the album, I think it incorporates rock really well into its dance, disco feel. I like many of the tracks on the album and how when you really listen to what Parker is saying, there is a lot more emotion than what appears on the surface. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys rock, disco, or funk music.
