On Michigan State’s side, they are still trying to rebuild their team since the departure of Mel Tucker. Both teams were in for a tough rivalry game. Michigan State started with the ball, and they drove all the way down the field and settled for a chip shot field goal by star kicker Johnathan Kim. Michigan State got the ball back and drove the field for Nate Carter a touchdown with a successful extra point. From there it was all defense from both sides, until the final 30 seconds of the first half when Davis Warren found star tight end Colston Loveland for a 10 yard touchdown pass. The point after had a fumbled snap that was picked up and thrown into the endzone, but the botched play was intercepted. MSU had a 7-6 lead before half, but it didn’t last long. Looking for a long field goal before half, MSU QB Aidian Chiles rolled out right looking for a pass, and Josiah Stewart came up on his blind side and forced a fumble which was recovered by Kenneth Grant on Michigan. With good field position and little time, Michigan sent out Dominic Zvada for a 37 yard kick which was successful to put Michigan up 9-7 at halftime. Michigan got the ball after halftime, and eventually scored a touchdown that was run in by Alex Orji. With a successful PAT, Michigan was up 16-7. After some defense, MSU scored again with a 46 yard field goal from Johnathan Kim. The Score was now 16-10 Michigan leading by 6. To Start the 4th quarter, Michigan drove down the field to score a touchdown on a trick play, Donovan Edwards got a pitch and then dropped back to throw to a wide open Colston Loveland for a second touchdown. Michigan then went for 2 to make up for the failed extra point attempt earlier, and Warren found Loveland in the endzone again for 2. At this point, Michigan led 24-10. After some back and forth defense, Michigan State brought in the last score of the game when Nick Marsh broke a few tackles for an impressive 20 yard touchdown catch from Aidan Chiles. MSU converted their extra point and now they were down by 7. With 6 minutes left. Michigan was stalled out by MSU’s defense and MSU had a chance to tie or win the game with a drive. They made it into the Michigan redzone but had failed to get a first down which brought up a 4th down. Michigan State couldnt convert, and after a few first down runs from Alex Orji, Michigan took the Victory Formation and won the game with a final score of 24-17. No players really stood out except for Nate Carter from Michigan State who had 19 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown along with 2 receptions for 56 yards, and Coloston Loveland from Michigan who had 6 receptions for 67 yards with 2 touchdowns and a 2 point conversion.
