Lil Tecca or Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe is a rapper who gained popularity through his hit song
Ransom which explores elements of fame, gang activity and women. His catchy flow was shown
on his mixtape We Love You Tecca released in 2019. I wish I had a counter for the amount of
profanity that is encapsulated in this mixtape. This album sucks, and the entire album is
overshadowed by Ransom. Some of the beats and production on this album sounds like Teccas
producer learned music theory while recording the album. Its goofy, and not in a good way. Its
like when a toddler puts on his dads suit to pretend to be him for work, except Teccas job is to
rap and he puts on this facade of “real yung rapper.” I could only compare this to contemporaries
who made their break on SoundCloud on songs like Shots and Sidenote, they explore
familiar themes of women, corny lyrics, and trapping and finessing. This to me says, how much
trapping and finessing has Lil Tecca done to write an entire album around it. Did It Again
follows these two songs, and It makes me want to drive my ears into a pool full of worms and
manure, if this were to happen I would get an ear infection and might be blessed by never
listening to this song again. Ill be honest I doubt there’s anything redeemable on this mixtape so I
didn’t finish it.
This is the product of lazy writing, duplicate flow, and
off-beat rapping. This mixtape mocks an entire genre by trying to normalize simplicity. Making
good music isn’t as simple as repeating the same themes and flow and calling yourself a
profound rapper. Tiktok and short-form media platforms really amplified Tecca into an artist
when he had one better-than-average pop-rap single and is more of a goof. Theres this term “no
skip album” in this case, this album is a “skip”.
