Early Sunday, powerful storms and multiple tornadoes caused mass destruction in Oklahoma. The storms and tornadoes injured at least 11 people and caused a lot of damage. Authorities reported tornadoes touching down near Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. The storms toppled trees and power lines and tore roofs from homes. Emergency services responded quickly, rescuing trapped individuals and assessing significant building damage across several neighborhoods.
In addition to tornadoes, quick rainfall led to flooding, stranding vehicles and making resume efforts harder. City officials have worked to clear the debris and ensure safer routes for emergency services. Areas like Valley Brook and Harrah were especially hard hit, with reports estimating damage similar to EF-2 and EF-3 tornadoes. Power outages affected nearly 100,000 civilians; many went to shelters in temporary facilities established by local authorities.
Oklahoma officials are warning residents to prepare for more storms soon, as fall tornado season continues. Mayor Chad Allcox of Choctaw noted the “historical rain amounts” expected, encouraging caution for flooded roads and near downed power lines.
