On Saturday Nov. 9 the Ole Miss Rebels went head to head against the Georgia Bulldogs. The game was rainy and both teams were there to play. But Ole Miss evidently won 28-10. This was one of their biggest wins in the history of Ole Miss football. The win marked the first time the Rebels have ever beaten a top two ranked team inside their home stadium after going 0-11 previously.
In the first quarter it didn’t seem likely the Rebels were going to be in the game. The Bulldogs quickly scored in the first 5 minutes of the game, due to Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart throwing a pick to the Bulldogs, and eventually scored off that drive. Jaxon Dart also got injured during this drive. But Rebels found a rhythm even with their starting QB on the sideline. Backup quarterback Austin Simmons led a 75-yard, game-tying touchdown drive in the first quarter. Later in the quarter starting QB Jaxon Dart came back into the game and had 3 drives for 3 field goals making the score 16-7 into the half.
Georgia’s offense struggled to do anything after scoring their first touchdown, but came into the second half with vengeance. The Bulldogs had a great drive down field, but the Rebels held to force a 23-yard Peyton Woodring field goal, cutting the lead back to six. The Rebel offense came out quick, with Dart hitting Watkins for nine yards, then Cayden Lee for 23 and 26 down to get them to the Georgia 14-yard line. Ole Miss capitalized, when Dart hit Antwane Wells Jr. in the end zone, Rebels led 22-10
Going into the 4th quarter Ole Miss almost started off with a turnover on the first play of the game when Trey Amos ripped the ball away from Frazier. Later a turnover happened when Umanmielen strip sacked Jaxon Dart. Georgia recovered the ball but there was a penalty, still making it a turnover. Georgia was slow on offense, they tried to convert on 4th-and-10, but Georgia’s QB threw a bad ball and was intercepted by the Rebels. Ole Miss got the ball into the red zone and added another field goal to make it a 15-point game, Georgia had a chance to come back but defensive end Umanmielen hit Beck, knocking the ball loose and Suntarine Perkins recovered at the Georgia 19-yard line. Ole Miss hit another field goal, sealing the victory 28-10.
