The Lions have been hot all season, but in their most recent matchup, the Lions almost lost a game that many assumed would be a stat booster. However the Lions managed to pull off a thrilling comeback to beat the Houston Texans 26-23 on the road. Despite a tough start, including five interceptions by quarterback Jared Goff, two of which were broken plays, and one a hail mary, Detroit kept fighting. Only scoring one touchdown in the first half that was thrown to Sam LaPorta, The Lions were down 23-7 in the third quarter, and despite his mistakes, Goff led the offense to a comeback, hitting Amon-Ra St. Brown for a key touchdown and also relying on David Montgomery for a critical 3-yard rushing score. Goff finished with 240 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a challenging 59.7 passer rating due to the 5 turnovers. This was Goffs lowest passer rating this season.? But he did have some help this game, Jameson Williams made his return from his 2 game suspension and caught 3 receptions for 56 yards, which helped the Lions in crucial 3rd down situations. Detroit’s defense was huge in the second half as well, sacking Texans QB C.J. Stroud four times and holding the Texans scoreless in the second half. The ball was also intercepted twice by corner Carlton Davis III, who the Lions picked up off of Tampa Bay in the off season. The game came down to the final minutes, when Ka’imi Fairbairn came out for a long field goal attempt. With an awkward snap, the ball was sent far left of the uprights. After a few plays the Lions got into easy field goal range for their kicker, Jake Bates. Bates then nailed a 52-yard field goal as time expired, securing the victory and moving the Lions to an impressive 8-1 record. Bates finished the day 2/2 on PATs and 2/2 on Field Goals, and along with the game winner, he hit an in-game career long of 58 yards that barely kissed the uprights that tied up the game. Many fans who have followed Bates since his UFL days know he can hit from 60+, and with two career game winners in the regular season, fans are waiting on the day Bates drills a winner from 60+. The Lions are not done yet, and they will Return Home this Sunday to play the Jacksonville Jaguars. The hopes are that Goff can come back and fix his mistakes the from the weekend prior. The Game will be on CBS at 1 pm.
