On Sunday, Feb 23 the Indiana University men’s basketball team bus caught fire. The bus was reportedly on its way back from an away game at Northern Kentucky, when this occurred.
Luckily, everyone on the IU Indianapolis team was evacuated off the bus without injury, according to an athletic department statement released Sunday evening.
Later on the IU Indy Athletics team released a statement after this incident. “On the return drive from today’s game against Northern Kentucky, the bus carrying the IU Indianapolis men’s basketball team experienced a mechanical issue that caused a fire around Kent, Indiana,” IU Indy Athletics administrators wrote in a prepared statement. “All members of the team and staff evacuated the bus without injury. Another bus is en route to pick up the team and deliver them back to Indianapolis.”
A school bus picked up the IU Indianapolis basketball team, which they then were transported to a local restaurant. They stayed there a few hours until the charter bus company sent a second bus to pick them up. The team got home safely later that night.
