Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending injury during their matchup against Sacramento on March 3. Dallas would go on to suffer a 122-98 loss against Sacramento.
This injury occurred in the late first quarter while Kyrie was driving to the hoop. Kyrie stayed in the game to shoot his two free throws. He hobbled to the line and was helped by a Dallas employee. After shooting his free throws, he headed to the locker room and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game with what the team initially termed a left knee sprain. Later, it was deemed that it was a torn ACL.
This injury is devastating for the Dallas Mavericks. Irving was the team’s best overall player. Kyrie is the only NBA player this season who has averaged at least 20 points, 40% 3-point shooting, and 90% from the free-throw line.
Kyrie went live on his Instagram page Tuesday. Irving wanted to thank everyone who has reached out to him over the past 24 hours and said the “recovery process has already started.”
