
This past weekend summarized the Ovid Elsie Varsity Wrestling season of 2024-25. After a season full of wins and losses, senior Anthony Silva ended his high school career by going 0-2 on the first day of the state finals tournament. Feb. 28.
The first match started off with some fiery hand fighting and nasty snap downs but eventually ended with the regional champ getting a takedown and the two fleeing out of bounds. Silva proceeded to get a reversal and put the regional champ on his back, however the ref didn’t call a pin. Unfortunately in the second period the regional champ put Silva to his back and pinned him.
The second match was far more fast paced and Silva was winning by 8 points when he was caught in a nast headlock and pinned in the second period. Both opponents went onto lose their next matches. Silva left the mat thinking his wrestling career was now over, but then something happened. “Leaving Ford field that day I thought I was done wrestling for good, but that could change since I was contacted by an assistant coach for the Adrian colleges’ wrestling program! “
