The offseason has been rolling for a few weeks and a lot of teams have been making splashes here and there with some big signings. Possibly the biggest signing by the Detroit Lions has been corner DJ Reed, who I covered in my last story. But today I will be writing about a smaller signing on defense.
The Lions have acquired a new face at the corner position. His name is Rock Ya-Sin and he has a handful of experience with a few different NFL teams. His numbers aren’t too impressive, but he seems like he could be a solid backup or rotation player for Detroit. Let’s take a look at his stats.
To start, he was 34th pick out of the 2nd round in 2019 from Temple. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts where he played for 3 seasons and put together a stat line of 138 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles with 2 recovered, 2 interceptions, and 20 pass deflections through 41 games played. While not the best, he still put up decent numbers for a corner not usually guarding the number one target.
His next three years were with the LV Raiders, the Baltimore Ravens, and the San Fransico 49ers. Through these three seasons, he totaled 61 total tackles and 11 pass deflections on 38 games played. To total all of these out, in 79 games played, 199 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles with 2 recovered, 2 interceptions, and 31 pass deflections.
As mentioned before, Ya-Sin hasn’t been the flashiest producer, but he is a hard hitter and a team man, which is what the Lions look for in every player. Though he has yet to play a single full season. It is unclear whether or not it is from injury or other reasons. He could very possibly be an important depth piece and a role player, and he is a decent pickup for Detroit.
