Lessons in Vengeance is probably the best album I’ve listened to in full. The album was made by An April March, some genres the band has been put under is indie rock and shoegaze. It was released in 1995 as their second album with one more coming after. It had a CD release under Bedazzled Records. Chris Perry is credited with producing the album alongside other roles.
The band consisted of three members with a few members that left. Danella Hocevar (now Connors) was responsible for vocals, guitar, and bass; which all sound very nice. Chris Perry also played the guitar but also did the programming and production for the band. Michael Klug is the last member and is only credited with drums. Their music is typically slower paced but some songs do speed up at points. It is definitely clearer than other albums I’ve listened to, which is always a nice thing to hear.
The album consists of 13 songs, which all have pretty different sounds all still in their genre. I think I would have to say my favorite is “Hundreds and Thousands” which drops the guitar while keeping the bass, it replaces the guitar with a noise that I can only describe as an echoing wind chime. While that song is happy and forward-looking, “Incense Of You” seems to go the complete opposite direction with a somber sound that talks about looking back at a relationship. These two songs are able to exist on the album together thanks to the songs like “Magnet” that has a sad background with loud and happy vocals.
I really enjoyed everything about this while also hearing something new from each song. I can tell when it is really good when I don’t have any major complaints like other albums that suffer from recurring problems. I’m going to give Lessons in Vengeance by April March an awesome 4.6/5 for constantly being different while also being identifiable. I want to recommend this to anyone who likes anything that echoes or has reverb as that is a lot of the sound in this album.
