Mineral was formed by Chris Simpson(Vocals, Guitar), Scott McCarver(Guitar), Jeremy Gomez
(Bass) Gabriel Wiley (drums) around the Texas area in the mid 90’s. Their Debut album The
Power Of Failing went on to inspire many bands and was a defining indie-rock and emo act.
Their sophomore album End Seranading takes the visceral power of their previous work and
continues to display their poetic lyrcism and melodic riffs. End Seranading was released on
August 25, 1998. It was released through the label Crank!
I did a previous album review on The Power Of Failing which is my preferred and favorite
Mineral album. This album was pivotal in the role of emo music and honestly does so much well
that other bands cant even come close to doing. So when End Seranding was released I feel the
consumer would expect another album that displays gainy distortion riffs and melancholic and
intelligent songwriting. However they pivoted away into a softer quiter sound compared to their
previous energy.
I feel like there are a lot of good songs on this album that was a reasonable progression for
Mineral to make. Chris Simpson is very sparse lyrically but not vocally on this album. I feel like
a lot of songs which are 5 minutes long only have a couple sentences of lyrics that Chris draws
out vocally. I think a lot of the songs on here might be better than some of the songs on their
previous album. However, many of the songs sound similar to each other, and overall only a
couple really stand out to me.
I like this album, but not as much as their other work. I give it a 7/10
