President Trump has suggested giving trade schools money taken from Harvard. He wants to take $3 billion, saying on Truth Social, his social media platform, “I am considering taking THREE BILLION DOLLARS of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land.” Harvard declined to respond to the post.
Harvard, the nation’s oldest and wealthiest schools, is currently battling the White House in federal court, freezing over $3 billion dollars, with a separate lawsuit, fighting Trump’s plans to take away the university’s rights to take in international students.
The unit at Harvard hardest hit by Mr. Trump’s campaign has been the T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where work had been underway on efforts to stop the spread of tuberculosis and to find the cause of multiple sclerosis, among other projects. These projects are funded by this money that Trump is trying to take away. The National Science Foundation grant also awarded to Harvard delves into research on a project aiming to “grapple with present-day challenges in quantum computing.” Many of these, if not all, of these projects aren’t conducted in trade schools, which are more common with automotive repairs to cosmetology, not scientific research.
