I started this movie on Netflix called American Murder: The Family Next Door. Going into this movie, I didn’t know what was about to play. I read the title, and it said the word “Murder,” so I was pretty aware of how gory this movie was about to be. I’ve heard alot about this movie and I saw a little sneak peek on Facebook, which made me so ready to watch this movie. This movie runs for 1 hour and 23 minutes.
The main characters are Shanann Watts (the mom), Chris Watts (the dad), Celeste Watts (daughter), and Bella Watts (daughter). A couple more characters in this show are Nickole Atkinson (Shanann’s Friend), Nichol Kessinger (Chris’s mistress), Sandi Rzueck (Shanann’s mother), Frank Ruzeck (Shanann’s father), Cindy Watts (Chris’s mother), and Ronnie Watts (Chris’s father). The director of this movie is Jenny Popplewell.
The movie is set in 2018, when 34-year-old Shannan Watts and her two young daughters disappeared in Colorado. As heartbreaking details emerged, the family’s story made headlines around the world.
Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie 87% There are many reviews about this movie on Rotten Tomatoes, and a couple of them are, “Popplewell has done a great job of highlighting how deceptive we can all be when crafting our digital profiles”. Another one is “Crucially, the documentary doesn’t concern itself with digging deeper into Chris Watt’s personal, with mythologizing him or probing for underlying motives in his behavior”.
My honest opinion about this movie is that it’s a great movie if you want drama-related movies, and if you’re into horror. I personally love this movie, and it’s definitely one of my favorites. I’m also aware of this movie because my mom used to do this thing called “Thrive” with her, so she went to a bunch of conferences. So when I went with my mom, I got to meet Shanann Watts and her kids. It hit me hard what happened to her, since I knew her and her kiddos.
