In the lights of Sept. 22 evening at M&T Bank Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions fought a fierce, action-filled war. Detroit took the game 38–30, following a game filled with explosive plays, gut calls, and momentum changes.
Detroit was on the travel high, and Jahmyr Gibbs powered over for a 1-yard pickup on their opening drive, sending an early message. Baltimore responded with Derrick Henry’s 28-yard game-tying touchdown run late in the second quarter. The Lions responded with a 98-yard, 18-play drive capped by David Montgomery’s 1-yard run. The Ravens responded with Lamar Jackson to Rashod Bateman at the 3, tying the game 14-14 at halftime.
Baltimore had a 21–14 lead into the second quarter on a Mark Andrews catch from Jackson, but Detroit came back quickly: Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass to tie it at 21 once more. Gibbs scored a 4-yard TD in the fourth to make Detroit the leader. After a Ravens 41-yard field goal, the Lions replied with a 45-yard Jake Bates field goal to widen the gap. Subsequently, with 1:42 still on the clock, Montgomery broke free on a 31-yard touchdown run that proved to be a game-saver. Jackson would then strike again with Andrews on a 27-yard pass in the final minute, but the two-point try was unsuccessful, and Baltimore’s onside kick attempt wasn’t given to them. Detroit’s ground game dominated 224 yards on the ground to Baltimore’s 8,5, and its defense also applied steady pressure, sacking Jackson seven times.
Goff was precise in the passing attack, 20 of 28 for 202 yards, and Montgomery’s 151 yards on just 12 carries was a career high. Jackson passed for 288 yards and three touchdowns for the Ravens, and Andrews had six receptions for 91 yards. Derrick Henry contributed 50 ground yards and a score, but his fumble in the fourth quarter, which took a scoring opportunity away from the Titans, appeared to tip the game even more in the direction of the Lions. Ultimately, the Lions’ resilience, opportunistic defense, and even-strength offense yielded a road statement victory in Baltimore.
