Several top Democratic Congress members are calling for a meeting with President Donald Trump before a possible government shut down on Oct. 1. Democrats are looking to address Medicaid and other problems that many U.S. citizens rely on and the continuation of funding for those projects. Tuesday morning, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries confirmed a meeting was scheduled for Thursday and made the announcement to the public, only to be told President Trump had canceled the meeting.
“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” Trump posted on the social media site Truth Social. This meeting is unlikely to be rescheduled, with the threat of the government shutdown date looming closer and closer; neither party has initiated any next move towards addressing the problem.
If no move is made before the deadline, funding for the Affordable Care Act, as well as other health-care programs will be limited and eventually cut off.
