On Tuesday, the Tigers defeated the Guardians 2-1 in a nail-biter wild-card matchup. Including a 14 K outing by Tigers Ace Tarik Skubal, a Detroit Tigers postseason record. Detroit took the first blow after a bloop two-out single by Torkleson, allowing Kerry Carpenter to score. However, the most crucial play to the Tigers’ success was a squeeze bunt put on by Zach McKinstry that allowed Riley Green to score from third to give the Tigers the go-ahead run late in the 7th. Martinez brought in Cleveland’s only run in the 4th on a close play at the plate that needed to be reviewed.
The ninth inning was a sweat for the Tigers after reliever Will Vest had to escape a Jam after Ramirez singled and reached 3rd on an error; however, he was tagged out between third and home after a flyout from Kayfus to end the game. Vest earned a save in the game after getting the final four outs.
Detroit has a 1-0 lead in the series. Game 2 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Cleveland. The Tigers need one more victory to advance to the AL Division Series for the second consecutive year. The Tigers have high hopes after a rocky finish to the season. However, after the win, things are looking up for them.
