Detroit Lions defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24 Sunday night.
Lions Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson was outstanding driving off the edge for the Detroit Lions defense. He achieved his third career game with five quarterback hits, one sack, and a forced fumble.
Since the collection of quarterback hit data in 2006, only T.J. Watt has done more such games (5). Hutchinson has a sack in four straight games and 5.0 for the season. He also has 12 quarterback hits and three forced fumbles in just five games this season.
Points aplenty: The Lions scored at least 34 points for the fourth consecutive game. They have established franchise records for points (174) and touchdowns (22) made in the first five games of any season. The crazy part is that when talking to offensive players after the game, they find the performance far from perfect, and they consider themselves to be on the way of playing their best football.
Impact plays: Rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa got a more significant role against the Bengals because Kalif Raymond’s neck injury happened early in the game. When a young player like TeSlaa gets a bigger opportunity, he has to make the most of it. Tesla performed excellently on Sunday. In addition to scoring his second touchdown of the season on a 12-yard catch late in the fourth quarter, the third-round pick also made two crucial special teams plays as a gunner to force Cincinnati deep in their own territory.
The first was a brilliant move to redirect the ball going over the goal line back in play without the goal line being touched to let them be pinned at the 3-yard line. The other was wrestling the hold that was caused on the outside during a punt that allowed the Bengals to be released and pinned back inside their 10-yard line. It is plays like those that will not only keep TeSlaa on the field but also open up more opportunities for him.
