The Fantastic Four: First Steps was pretty good, nothing new but definitely not bad. The movie was released on July 25, 2025 with a runtime of 114 minutes. It was directed by Matt Shakman under the Marvel Studios production company. There was around a $200 million budget with it raking in about $520 million in the box office. This movie was released around the same time as Superman (2025), which sparked a lot of conversation between the two.
When the main cast was originally announced, I was a bit concerned about it but after watching the movie it turned out to be some nice picks. It features a cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the Fantastic Four, alongside Julia Garner, Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson as various different characters. The story was created by Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer and Kat Wood and adapted into a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer
The story is about the Fantastic Four, who at this point are the well established protectors of the planet, having to deal with the threat of Galactus. The Silver Surfer came to the planet to announce that their planet is marked for destruction in order to satisfy Galactus’ hunger. The hero group flies out to negotiate with Galactus but he wants the child of Reed RIchards and Susan Storm (Half of the four, who are also married) but they cannot let that happen. Because the agreement wasn’t reached they have to find another way to get out of danger while the Earth’s population panics.
Honestly I’m pretty fond of the story, the ending is satisfying and has plenty of parts where I was excited to see what would happen next. There were also some cool references to Doctor Doom that got me excited for Avengers: Doomsday. I wasn’t a big fan of the 60’s aesthetic, it was a bit too much at times and just didn’t look very good with the normal looking buildings. I’d give The Fantastic Four: First Steps a 3.7/5 because it does good with what it has but it isn’t perfect and left me with some weird questions.
