Frames of Teknicolor is a near perfect album, in my opinion at least. Created by The Mirror Reveals, it was released in 2000 as their first album. It came out on CD with the publisher being Middle Pillar Records. Some genres it is under are Darkwave, Dream Pop and Ethereal Wave. The album was produced by Bryin Dall and Derek Rush, the former is also a member of The Mirror Reveals.
More on the band it is actually a duo consisting of Bryin Dall and Kit Messick. Bryin is credited with all of the instruments played in this album alongside any other noises. Alongside the instruments Bryin was also the songwriter and lyricist. Kit is basically just vocals, real piggybacking if you ask me. For one song a man named Mark Steiner is credited with the vocals. The band formed after Kit’s previous group broke up and the vocalist Bryin was originally working with was no longer available. Together they create slow and atmospheric music with female vocals that get pretty high.
It’s a pretty short album, only being eight songs, but it makes up for it with a bunch of amazing songs. I don’t think there’s a song here I don’t hate, and not because they are the same, this time there is quite a variety. My favorite ones are “Moebius Stripped”, “In a Memory” and “Confined”. There is male vocals in a couple of the songs and they fit as well as the female ones, probably because they contrast each other and their tones both fit the sound of the instruments.
Overall, it’s really good and does everything very well. I do have a problem with the song lengths at times, I’d wish it to maybe be a bit more consistent as I was not in the mood for an eight minute song after listening to what I did. I’m going to give Frames of Teknicolor by The Mirror Reveals a 4.5/5 because of how awesome it truly is. On a final note I’d compare this album to what I think the dark fantasy art style would sound like as music.
