Jamie Perrien gave highlights from the Instructional Council meeting. There was great concern among the board when it was mentioned that 47% of 2011 graduates from Ovid-Elsie had to take one or more remedial class in college.
During the annual school update, there was a discussion about how the school could save energy. The superintendent, Dr. Ryan Cunningham, shared his ideas about updating all the schools by putting in energy saving lights and other fixtures.
Dr. Cunningham also brought up a discussion about when the best time to ask the public to approve the sinking fund would be. It was later decided that they would not put it up to vote again in February. They also agreed that there is more research and response from the community needed before it goes up for vote again.
High school art teacher Laura Weber had two field trips approved during the meeting. The first field trip approved was is for an ice sculpting competition in Frankenmuth. The other approved trip is to take the National Art Honor Society to the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.
A motion was passed to approve a new full-time custodian to the school district.
Near the end of the meeting, everyone was excused so the board could go into closed session.
The next meeting will be on January 16, 2012 at 7 P.M.
