Spongebob Squarepants movie worth a watch

My first impressions of The Spongebob Squarepants movie were rather surprisingly good as you don’t usually see good production quality based on adaptations of kids TV shows.

As for the review itself, although the humor was quite weak at points, the storytelling flowed well with its shifts from happy to somewhat dark tones.  The main cast of the movie was pretty much all the same people from the show Spongebob Squarepants including Director Stephen Hillenburg, Tom Kenny voicing Spongebob, Bill Fagerbakke voicing his best friend Patrick Star and many other cast members.  This cast flowed together well and made it feel like the show but much longer.

The story takes place in the town of Bikini Bottom where the grand opening of the Krusty Krab 2 is happening.  When local resident Spongebob Squarepants does not get his dream job because he is a kid, he is rather down about it.  But when Plankton decides to use Plan Z and steal the crown from King Neptune while also framing Mr. Krabs for it, Spongebob is determined to get the crown back and show he is not just any kid.  He must now take a journey to Shell City with his best friend Patrick to get the crown back while facing obstacles in their way.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, they gave this movie a rating of 68% which would be an average movie for them.  One critic of the movie says, “As a TV series, Spongebob has proven to be quite entertaining in 30-minute doses.  Stretching the running time to 90 minutes doesn’t help raise the level of appreciation though.”

My personal rating for this movie is a 9/10.  Some things that I liked about the movie were that the cast was perfect for the movie as they are all familiar with the hit show and its personality.  The soundtrack of the movie was rather good as it fits well with the movie.  Some things that I disliked about the movie were that some of the humor really wasn’t that great and it could have been shorter in certain parts but otherwise a well executed movie.

My personal recommendation is that you should definitely give this movie a chance, even if you really aren’t that big on the TV show.
