Ovid Elsie High School has started a Residential Building Trades class, led by woodshop teacher Ben Smith. Smith has had a very extensive construction background and is very knowledgeable with this subject and is terrific at teaching it.
This class began at the beginning of second semester on January, 25 2021, teaching the students how to build anything with four walls. They first start by modeling it. Just yesterday they started making a model of a shed to learn how to use scale. After the students finish the model in about two weeks they are now starting to make a model of a pole barn.
This will be done with the hope that the students will be able to go onto an actual job site and work on the pole barn alongside the contractors. Smith is teaching his students the value of hard work and the importance of working together, along with employable woodworking construction skills
