Maybe I Do: Sub-Par Romantic Comedy

Alyze Ladiski, Staff writer

With an award-winning ensemble cast, Maybe I Do stars Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Emma Roberts, Luke
Bracey and William H. Macy in a multi-generational romantic comedy. Michelle ( Emma Roberts) and Allen ( Luke Bracey) have
reached the point in their relationship to take the next steps toward marriage. With their relationship at a crossroads, Michelle and
Allen invite their parents to finally meet, they set a dinner and make it a family affair. To everyone’s surprise, the affair takes on a
whole new meaning as it turns out, their parents already know each other, maybe a little too well. Trapped in this precarious
predicament, they try to hide their dalliances from the kids while confronting their spouses’ lovers head-on. This movie was one of the
newest releases in theaters, as it came out on the 27th of this month. It was directed by Micheal Jacobs and had a marvelous cast
starring in it. Rotten Tomatometer rated this a 30% and audience rating of 58% and one of the top critics stated, “Its title leaves plenty
of room for doubt, but don’t be fooled: Despite its impressive cast, Maybe I Do is a definitively subpar rom-com.” I would have to
agree with this statement and I understand why this movie was rated so low because although it had well known actors/actresses
starring in it, it wasn’t the top rom/com movie. The movie doesn’t progress the way I thought it would and it just takes forever to get
to the point. Though I’ll admit there were some parts of the movie that spoke out to me and got me teary eyed at some points and
made me laugh a little, but still this wasn’t my all time favorite. I rate this movie 7/10
