Tavern 109 Restaurant Gets Mixed Review

Rubie Sanford, Staff writer

Tavern 109 in Williamston has a sophisticated atmosphere but an underwhelming experience.  They are open every day from noon to 9 pm. Tavern 109’s menu has lots to choose from, although all a little overpriced. I got the Bird & Blue for $15- a grilled chicken sandwich with blue cheese, honey roasted pear, arugula, chipotle aioli on sourdough bread. My sandwich was missing arugula and pear, and the blue cheese was a little too strong. I also got the stone ground cheese grits for $5 on the side, and it was very plain. However, I got to try the fries and they were very good. The menu features entrees such as risotto, seafood and other meats,  and mac n cheese with your choice of meat. Prices range from $13 to $34. They also offer burgers, sandwiches, and pizza, as well as dessert. There was an extensive drink menu.

Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Our food was very well prepared and we didn’t have to wait too long. The restaurant itself was very clean and aesthetically pleasing.

I would rate Tavern 109 three out of five stars because only one person in our party enjoyed their food (chicken and waffles). The bleu cheese overpowered my sandwich and the grits were bland.  However, I would go back to try different things on the menu, and be sure to get fries on the side.
