The Ovid-Elsie classes Journalism and the yearbook are run by Mr. Michael Puffpaff. He teaches students the basics of the art of journalism and the media and then allows them to be free to go with their creativity. The classes help comprise the yearbook and keep the oeonline website full of weekly stories. Recently the students finished their training and began part of production cycles.
The students have begun to get used to the weekly production cycles, in which they have a story done each week to put on the site. The students have been putting a lot of movie reviews or reviews in general out. He said, “I think the journal kids like to write reviews and I hope they will branch outward to do some other things.” Some students have started with what they are comfortable with, having opinions. Usually, students are a fly on the wall except when it comes to reviews where opinions are needed.
This year the yearbook is about a third done. Mr. Puffpaff stated, “(we) start picking covers next week, started getting some advertisement.” Some students have made memes to post around the school about getting a yearbook and the yearbook has gotten slight popularity among students for this cause. The first deadline for the yearbook is December 22 and they have to do 14 pages.
Mr. Puffpaff has goals for this years Journalism team and yearbook one. He “Hopes they find their passion, whether it be writing, taking photos.” The Journalism and yearbook team are said to have good prospects and Mr. Puffpaff hopes they continue to go into a communications career in the future. He believes he has some really talented writers and has explained he hopes to “Capitalize on them to take greater roles in the following years.” Mr. Puffpaff believes that this year he has some really talented writers with good futures if they so choose to take advantage of their talents.
This year students should look forward to the completion of the yearbook and some notable stories. Mr. Puffpaff recommends Nikolaus’s recent story on the anniversary of Harry Potter.
