The Exorcist: Believer came out on Oct 6, 2023, with a budget of 30 million US dollars. It was written by David Green and produced by Jason Blum. The movie made about 63.1 million dollars at the box office, including the streaming platforms. The Exorcist: Believer follows the same path as other movies in the collection with its horror.
The Exorcist: Believer follows many of what the other movies in the franchise follow with the horror elements and story. A father noticed his daughter and friend being possessed by an evil spirit and decided to confront the evil. That all being said, its story feels like many other stories in the franchise as many reviewers point that out saying it’s not trying to make up for it. One reviewer gave the movie a 4.7/10 saying it was an incoherent movie that was just meant to make the original movie look amazing in comparison. Another reviewer said the movie didn’t even get close to what the original movie was going for nor was it trying its own new thing, they gave it a 2/5. Overall the movie got a 22% on the Tomatometer and a 59% on the audience score.
All in all, the movie was alright in my opinion. It’s a horror movie like it wants to be even if its scary moments are noticeable at times. It could have tried a little harder in the story department so things would make more sense and having the scary moments hit harder would have definitely helped the movie in the long run. I would personally give this movie a 3/5 and recommend it to anyone who wants to watch all of the movies in the franchise.
